Comparison

Victava vs Disputifier

Disputifier and Victava charge the same headline rate — 20% on a win. Same SMB merchant base. So why do we exist? The answer is in the evidence we reach, the expected-value call on whether to fight, and the approval step before anything is filed.

Honesty up front

Disputifier launched in 2020 out of Clayton, NC, and now claims 11,372+ brands. App Store rating sits at 4.2–4.3 across ~58 reviews, with a bimodal pattern — 79% five-star vs 14% one-star. The five-stars praise responsive support and time savings; the one-stars concentrate on billing surprises and cancellation friction. Pricing is 20% of recovered revenue — exact same headline as Victava.

Victava is in its founding cohort, live on Stripe, targeting DTC merchants doing $100k–$5M GMV who run their store on Shopify. Same 20% success fee. The difference: we pull evidence Stripe can't reach — your Shopify orders, helpdesk threads, and carrier delivery proof — an expected-value engine tells you when a dispute isn't worth fighting, we cannot submit without your approval (architectural rule, not a setting), and we bill only on a recovered Stripe win — no surprise card holds, no unilateral price increases via email.

Both products work. The pick depends on whether you want “100% hands off” or “100% transparent and you stay in the loop.”

The two real differences

Difference #1

Approval before submission

Disputifier markets itself as “100% hands off” and “0 minutes spent managing chargebacks.” Victava requires you to click Approve before anything goes to Stripe. We send a 72h / 48h / 24h reminder schedule so you don't miss the deadline; the case-brief preview takes ~30 seconds to read. The architectural constraint can never be disabled — even by us.

Why it matters: the documented 1-star reviews on every auto-submit competitor concentrate on premature submissions, submissions on customers who were actually right, and submissions before the merchant's own evidence window closed. Human approval prevents all of those by design — and after Disputifier's January 2026 API-token breach triggered unauthorized refunds across merchant stores, keeping a human on the submit button stopped being optional.

Difference #2

Billing transparency

Disputifier's App Store has a documented complaint of $799 charged without consent after a price-increase email was treated as implicit approval. Multiple merchants report cancellation friction.

Victava charges a success fee only on a recovered Stripe win, billed through your Stripe account so the line item lands on the same statement as the recovery. Every charge ties to a recovered_amount and a specific dispute ID — auditable in Stripe and in our dashboard. Cancel anytime; we don't hold balances.

Why it matters: surprise billing is the most cited reason merchants churn off chargeback tools, more than win rate or dashboard quality.

Pick Victava when…

  • You want to review and approve the rebuttal before it goes to Stripe — never auto-submit on someone who's right.
  • You want the tool to tell you when a dispute isn't worth fighting — not auto-fight every one.
  • You want every evidence field traceable to its source API call and timestamp.
  • You've been burned by surprise billing or cancellation friction on a chargeback tool before.
  • Your stack is Stripe + Shopify and you ship physical goods (carrier webhooks shine here).
  • You want a published win rate you can verify, with methodology cited.

Pick Disputifier when…

  • You explicitly want fully-automated submissions and don't want a merchant-approval step.
  • You need pre-chargeback alerts (Verifi/Ethoca/RDR/Order Insight) bundled with the recovery product.
  • You process on multiple non-Stripe rails (Authorize.net, Afterpay, Klarna) and need one tool across them.
  • You want a more mature company with a longer track record (11k+ brands).

Switching questions

If you charge the same 20%, why are you cheaper to actually use?

We're not cheaper on the headline rate — we're equal. The total cost difference comes from (1) avoiding wasted submissions on cases you would have skipped if asked (human-approval skip-rate is ~10–20% in early data), and (2) avoiding surprise billing or cancellation churn. If you net out wasted submissions and cancellation hassle, the effective rate is lower for many merchants.

Why does Victava require approval before every submission?

Stripe disputes can only be submitted once. If we auto-submit on a customer who's actually right, or before evidence is complete, you lose the case and the chargeback fee is non-refundable. The merchant-approval gate is what makes mandatory human approval safer than fully-automated alternatives.

Can I switch from Disputifier to Victava?

Yes. Cancel Disputifier on your existing pipeline; install Victava; new disputes flow to us. Disputes already submitted via Disputifier stay with their fee structure (we don't double-bill). See our /switch-from/disputifier guide for the exact steps.

What if I want both?

Practically no. Both products subscribe to Stripe webhooks; whichever installs first picks up new disputes. Pick one. Switching is the cleaner answer.

Is the comparison fair?

We try. Every claim on the comparison table cites its source. If anything is wrong, email support@victava.com — we'll fix it within 48 hours.
